WWB 2018 YEAR in REVIEW: Let Your Heart & Soul Be Your Wellness Pilot…

You’ve read the news, you’ve seen the stats and you know we are living in a pretty sick culture. While everyone is arguing over health care and insurance seems to get more and more expensive, maybe the best New Year resolution we can make is to cultivate wellness wisdom and take charge of our health and well-being.  No-one can live your life as well as you and this is why it’s necessary to be an informed advocate for your own health. Knowledge is important but self-awareness is equally if not more important. At World Wise Beauty the aim is to cultivate wellness wisdom so we can live life well and enjoy our life journey.  Together we glean wisdom and knowledge from the wise gurus in wellness culture who are committed to educating and guiding us, but also never losing sight that we ultimately know ourselves best. ‘Patient Heal Thy Self’.

In 2018 I talked with doctors, experts, and visionaries on the cutting edge of wellness culture, and each of them seemed to be touching on an important idea, which is we as ‘individuals’ have our own internal compass that can guide us to good health, healing and well-being. 2018 was the year of self-care and break through medical science and research. While the research and science has been exciting, there seems to be a collective wisdom rising in all corners of health and wellness culture, signaling that perhaps we’ve been out of touch with the basic needs humans require to function, thrive and live well. Below you will find a quick review of the books I found insightful and inspiring in 2018, along with links to the Q&A’s with the wise guru authors. I also added a few ‘wise bites’ from the authors. Wishing you a healthy and happy New Year. May your heart and soul be your wellness pilot as you journey on with your beautiful life. More inspiration + wisdom + tools to come in 2019…

‘Heart ~ A History’  Dr. Sandeep Jauhar wants to change the paradigm of modern medicine today. Read this book and you will understand why a ‘change of heart’ is desperately needed in the field of medicine and in our society. Learn from this cardiologist on the cutting edge of heart medicine, who believes the ‘metaphorical heart’ which is the idea that the heart is the locus or repository of emotions, is crucial to our health. Author Wise Bite: “Healthy lifestyle in all its facets helps our heart health but one thing we don’t appreciate enough is our healthy relationship to our loved ones, our neighbors, and fostering a sense of community. These important human connections are all important to the heart and living life well.” ~Dr. Sandeep Jauhar

‘Body Kindness’ ‘Transform your Health from the Inside Out and Never Say Diet Again’ . If this isn’t music to your ears, then I don’t know what is. Finally someone wrote a book about how NOT to diet! More than just a book on nutrition and food, this book helps you trust your own body wisdom. Rebecca Scritchfield a Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist explores three important pillars that guide the Body Kindness philosophy, and don’t worry all of it is sound wellness wisdom based on science and good common sense. This book is all about embracing your power of choice and cultivating your “inner caregiver”.  It’s also about feeling good again! A must read! Learn more with Q&A

Author Wise Bite: “If you are stuck in the middle of a fun famine, it’s time to find your way back to the land of plenty!” ~Rebecca Scritchfield

‘Quench’  Beat Fatigue, Drop Weight, and Heal Your Body Through the New Science of Optimum Hydration. Dr. Dana Cohen’s is a doctor of Integrative Medicine and her passion stems from her belief that medicine is an art, and a patient centered, holistic approach is the vital first step on the path to overall health and wellness. The authors of Quench Dr. Dana Cohen and Gina Bria acknowledge in the introduction of the book that the science they base their claims on is not yet confirmed by clinical studies. They are currently calling it breakthrough science, so we should keep in mind that the study of the importance of water hydration from a health focused perspective is an emerging science. Definitely an area to pay attention to but Quench taps into more than just water. Much of the content is based on sound nutritional science. Dr. Cohen connects the dots for us and walks us through the many ways water is powering and supporting our body, mind and spirit. You will be surprised and enlightened. Learn more with Q&A

Author Wise Bite: “Hydration is it the first step in preventing and treating chronic illness. From fatigue, headache, brain fog to certain cancers-bladder and colon, to even diabetes type2 and Alzheimer’s. The same way we can be undernourished with certain nutrients triggering health conditions, many of us are severely dehydrated and it often leads to illness.” ~Dr. Dana Cohen

‘Soulful Simplicity’ “How living with less can lead to so much more.” There are many books out there on decluttering our lives, but it seems to me everyone should read this book as a primer before they begin to clean house in any form. Simply said, this book is about clearing out the cobwebs in our minds, so we can begin to hear what’s in our hearts. There is a great quote that comes to mind when reading this book, “When you know your why, you’ll know your way”. Courtney Carvers personal story along with her wise practical tips on living from the inside out shows us how we all can find our own way and live life well.  Learn more with Q&A

Author Wise Bite: “It’s about clearing out what doesn’t matter to make room for what does.” ~Courtney Carver
