WWB March Ideal Finds Features Inspiration from the Philadelphia Flower Show & Treats for Bird Chirping Weather

Mar 30, 2018 by

Yes bring on the bird chirping weather! In my area of the country, we have had a very slow start to spring.  With snow still on the ground, it was delightful and uplifting to attend the Philadelphia Flower Show this month for Spring inspiration and color therapy. Having attended many beauty, health, and wellness shows for most of my career, it’s a thrill to add this show to my personal must go list! Presented by the Philadelphia Horticultural Society the beautiful and creative botanical exhibits are the main attraction, but there was also unique exhibitors from the world of beauty, health and wellness I was thrilled to find and discover.

I remember seeing a quote by Christian Dior that said “After women, flowers are the most lovely thing God has given the world.” We agree don’t we! There are so many parallels to draw about women and flowers, but the one I like especially, is each flower and woman is uniquely beautiful and comfortable in their own skin. Take a peak at the WWB branding images and you will see how I’ve always made this connection.

Following are a few Ideal Finds I discovered at the Philadelphia Flower show I thought you would appreciate. All of them make great gifts for loved ones and this includes yourself! As always, I have specific criteria for Ideal Finds, so feel free to review the conscious living values I look for when making the month’s Ideal Finds selections for you. Let’s look forward to bird chirping weather and colorful beautiful flowers blooming. Whether it be in your yard, your garden, or a public park or botanical garden, take time to enjoy the magnificent beauty of Spring…

Happy Easter weekend!

Never Underestimate the Super-Power of WWB’s ‘Beauty Food’ of the Week

May 27, 2015 by

Beauty Food of the Week: Chia Seed
WWB’s Ideal Find: Annamarie Gianni Skincare

WWB’s Beauty Food of the Week is the Chia Seed. Some of you who are foodies may have heard a lot about this newly ordained ‘superfood’, while others may remember the ‘Pet Chia Plant’ craze of the early 80’s! Let’s skip over the chia plant story and get right to the ‘super’ facts about the Chia Seed. They actually go much further back than the 80’s and have been around for hundreds of years. Thanks to the Aztecs, Incas and Mayans rich cultural history (found in Mexico and South America), we know chia seeds were used as staple foods, but were also revered as a potent nutrient. The ancient Mayan culture called the powerful little seed ‘Chia’, which also meant ‘strength’. The seed became known by the Indians as ‘Running Food’ because of the sustained energy it gave runners and warriors of the time. So we can confidently say…never underestimate the super-power of chia seeds!

Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, protein and fiber, these now ‘trendy seeds’ are loaded with nutritional power. Wouldn’t it make sense then that they’d do just as much good for the outside of your body as the inside? Chia seeds are so rich in hormone balancing fatty acids, it only makes sense that they would be great for skin. The presence of ample fiber also helps in elimination and reduction of environmental toxins, which can lead to skin problems. Add in their incredible antioxidant power and you’ve got yourself a skin healing superfood.

The naturals and organic folks who are creating beauty and natural products for you are really in love with the Chia Seed right now, because these little seeds when cold pressed into an oil, work ‘miracles’ on the skin. Chia seed oil is super moisturizing. In the Mexican culture today Chia means ‘oily’ so this totally makes sense! It hydrates, rebuilds, protects, and calms the skin. The powerful antioxidants in the oil work to protect skin against damage from free radicals associated with aging and UV damage. You can reap the beneficial beauty benefits of chia in a bottle by checking out my Ideal Find or you can try your own DIY mask below.

Avocados are high in Vitamin E which helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and Chia Seeds are rich in omega 3 fatty acids which help reduce inflammation. Paired together you have a ‘mighty’ spa treatment for your skin! As summer fun in the sun begins, you will want to take extra care good care of your skin…

  • Mash 1/2 of an avocado in a bowl

  • Add 3 tablespoons of ground chia seeds to avocado, mix well.

  • Apply mixture to face and neck, leave for 15-20 minutes.

  • Gently wash off with water.

Just as a wise reminder, when it comes to beauty products and ‘miracle ingredients’, I believe a good balanced diet filled with a plethora of all the beauty foods I feature at WWB contribute to healthy skin. So try to eat across the color spectrum of nature’s bounty as they all work together synergistically to beautify your skin. When seeking ‘enhancement’ from a bottle try to look for some of the super beauty foods featured here, that naturally nourish your body from the inside out. We all  love a good ‘miracle’ but we also love wisdom. 😉

WWB’s ‘Beauty Food’ of the Week is in Every Queen’s Beauty Regime…

Apr 8, 2015 by

Ideal Find in a Bottle: Pure Mee Beauty

WWB’s Beauty Food of the week has been used as a beauty product since the days of Cleopatra and it continues to be used today in manufactured and homemade products for skin and hair care. Cleopatra was not only beautiful, but had radiant, soft, silky skin.  She and other Queens have followed honey beauty regimes designed for giving them beautiful skin.

The use of honey as a cosmetic in Ancient Greece dates back to 5000 BC, when skin care was based on bee products, goats milk, herbs, and olive oil. Honey was used to make facemasks and body scrubs. It has anti-inflammatory actions and helps shed dead skin cells. Ancient Greek women enjoyed honey and milk baths as part of their nightly beauty regime. Today it’s still a major ingredient in contemporary Greek beauty products.

Honey is one of nature’s very own anti-aging serums. With its natural antioxidant and anti-microbial properties, raw Honey is rich in vitamins and minerals (glucose and fructose) – nutrients that seem to be the perfect ‘skin food’.  Honey is also a humectant and attracts water which makes it a wonderful moisturizer.  A strong anti-inflammatory and natural antiseptic, it removes impurities from the skin. This is found particularly in raw honey.

Can’t make it to a spa today? Relax and do what comes naturally to a Queen. Take a milk and honey bath!

Truly Herself, Lauroly

  • Pour 1-2 cups of milk (or 1/2 c. full-fat powdered milk) and 1/2 c. honey under running, warm water.
  • Mix, and hop in. Close your eyes and imagine beautiful men fanning you with palm leaves. Repeat as necessary!

WWB FYI: For full effect, brush your skin lightly and in circular motions with a dry brush or a wash cloth before getting in the bathtub.

Squeeze Out the Lovely Benefits of WWB’s ‘Beauty Food’ of the Week…

Apr 2, 2015 by

WWB’s Beauty Food of the Week: Lemon
Ideal Find in a Bottle: L’Occitane Angelica Lemon Ultra Foaming Cleanser

WWB’s Beauty Food of the Week is a citrus powerhouse. Lemons are a great source of calcium, vitamin C, magnesium, potassium, minerals and antioxidants that improve the appearance and condition of our hair, skin and nails. You can literally squeeze the beautiful benefits right out of the lemon!

When we think of lemons, we often think of the Mediterranean warmth and sun, but the lemon has Asian origins and comes from the Far East (India and China) were it was found growing wild. They were prized for their many medicinal virtues but used as a beauty staple by women in South Asia and the Middle East.

The Lemon is fantastic for our skin. The natural fruit acids gently remove dead skin cells and lighten age spots, unwanted freckles and facial discolorations. The acidity zaps oiliness and cleans our pores without stripping the skin of its natural oil balance. For thousands of  women around the world it was as easy as picking a lemon from the tree in their backyard, cutting it in half, and rubbing it over their face. They then would take the rind of the lemon and use it as an exfoliator. When life gives you lemons, use them!

  • DIY Astringent: All you need is fresh squeezed lemon juice. Dab onto a cotton ball and apply to face (or simply run a slice of lemon over your face) each morning. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, then rinse. For especially dark age spots, place a slice of lemon directly onto the spot and let sit for 10 minutes. Repeat daily for one week.
  • DIY Exfoliant: Slice a lemon in half and dip into granulated sugar. Rub vigorously on rough patches of skin, especially the feet, elbows, and kneecaps.
WWB FYI Wisdom: Keep in mind lemon juice should not be left on the body for extended periods of time and may cause severe reactions when exposed to the sun. It can increase your  chance of sunburn and the acids in lemons can cause inflammation and irritation of the skin. So make sure you wash it off after a few minutes and apply a good sunscreen before stepping out. Lemon also works wonders on hair but may interact with chemically treated and processed hair. Lemon rinses work best on non-treated/dyed and naturally lighter colored hair.  ~Lauroly, Truly Herself
Don’t forget how incredibly healthy lemons are for the inside of your body. You can reap the benefits just by drinking a cup of warm water and lemon juice in the morning or you can try this light spritzer for outdoor lounging! Fill a tall glass with ice and add crushed mint leaves. Pour in Lemon Syrup and sparkling water. Garnish with a twist of lemon. Enjoy!

From the Inside and Out: WWB’s Beauty Food of the Week ‘Green Tea’ is an Ancient Beauty Secret

Mar 25, 2015 by

WWB’s Beauty Food: Green Tea
Ideal Find in a Bottle: Origins

Green Tea is considered a Super Food because of its powerful antioxidants and it’s these same antioxidants called Polyphenols that make Green Tea extremely beneficial for the skin. Just look around at any of the major skin-care brands and you will find at least one of their products promoting the potency of their green tea ingredient. Yet the beauty secrets and wisdom about Green Tea have been around for centuries. Green tea’s powerful antioxidants and ant-inflammatory properties has been revered by Chinese and Japanese cultures and they use it topically to address everything from acne, to saggy skin, irritated skin and preventing wrinkles.  Modern science has researched and confirmed many of the skin-care benefits and I won’t blind you with scientific research here. Instead I will share the simple beauty secrets and remind you that green tea is over-all a very healthy elixir inside and out. So, don’t forget to have a cup of tea and relax. This is not a secret, it’s time-tested wisdom! 😉

Truly Herself, Lauroly

DIY SPA SECRETS & TREATMENTS CAN BE FOUND IN A TEA BAG!

~For Your Eyes Only

Don’t throw away the tea bags and instead, cool them and place them over your eyes for relief. Green tea contains tannin, an astringent that miraculously shrinks skin. The cool tea bags reduce the swelling around your eyes and tighten the skin, making you look and feel refreshed.

~Scrub & Glow

Green tea helps tighten the skin, and making a green tea facial scrub out of the used tea is very good for the face. Mix green tea with granulated sugar and water, and you have an exfoliating scrub. It is light on the skin and gives you an incredible glow. You can store the scrub in the fridge to keep it fresh and use again.

~ Steam & Gleam

Make a green tea steam facial. Boil some water and then pour it into a large bowl. Take a green teabag, cut it open, and empty the contents into the hot water. Take a towel and place it over your head. Then bend over the bowl, making sure your face isn’t very close to the water, but close enough to feel the steam. Stay under for only five minutes.

~Illuminate & Rejuvenate

Mix equal amounts of baking soda and green tea and a bit of honey to make a facial mask. Honey helps in rejuvenating your skin and green tea, as mentioned, tightens the skin. Baking soda is a good exfoliator and helps detox the skin. Short of time? Heat water and run the tea bag over it till it starts to steam.  Squeeze out most of the water and rub the bag over your face for a few minutes for an instant glow.

~ Pamper Your Mane ( that would be your hair!)

Green tea rinse is good for your hair and gives it a great shine. Put a few green tea bags in boiling water and let it simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Leave it overnight. The next morning, pour this water on damp hair and leave it for 10 minutes. You can massage your scalp if you like. Rinse it off and apply shampoo later as usual, but make sure to use a sulphate-free product.
